They are a parody of the Planeteers, a group of five element-themed eco-warrior teenagers from cult 90’s television series Captain Planet and the Planeteers.Morty Smith, who had fallen in love with Planetina, killed the Tina-Teers and stole their rings so that he and Planetina could be together. When the Tina-Teers combine their powers, they summon the environmental superheroine Planetina.īy the time they were middle aged, they became more concerned with making money than saving the planet and began to see Planetina as a product, eventually planing to sell her to an Arab who likes to eat the meat of baby endangered animals. In the mid 1990's, when they were young adults, Mother Nature recruited them to combat pollution and entrusted them with four magic rings which grant the powers of fire, water, air, and dirt. Or could it be that years of the Tina-teers mistreating. Since Morty killed the Tina-teers with their own rings, its possible that his violent side seeped into the rings and corrupted Planetina, explaining her sudden violent turn. Morty is growing as character but not getting mature at all. Morty is just thinking with his dick like always and just in the next episode his dick caused an near-Apocalypse. Planetinas sudden swing into darkness is subject to a lot of this. What I didn't like is the people idealizing the Morty/Planetina relationship when is a instable older woman and a hormone kid. Rick & Morty commonly takes pop culture figures and distorts them to fit inside the series' own bizarre sci-fi world, but Planetina's anger is more based in reality than the rest of these Rick & Morty parodies, making it all the more unsettling. The Tina-Teers are a group of four people from each major ethnicity: Caucasian (Russian), Black (Jamaican), Italian-American, and Asian (Chinese). Part of the gag is that Captain Planet would absolutely go insane in a world where corrupt politicians undermine environmental activism. That being said, her violent outrage makes her seem like a horrifying villain even if her motives are understandable. I think 'Shes gone' is a combo of both the losses. Then episodes later Planetina brings a light back only to crush him even more. Only Eddie tried to kill him, 'Pizza Delivery' Morty deliberately went after the other three Tina-Teers to kill them so he could be with Planetina. "A Rickconvenient Truth" interestingly never takes an official stance on how justified Planetina is and uses her arc to show the complexity of current environmental politics. Morty also killed Planetinas kids and tried to justify it. In that version, Captain Planet goes mad with power and transforms almost everyone on Earth into trees as the Planeteers cower in fear. In addition, Captain Planet is just one eco-terrorist act away from becoming a Poison Ivy, who has similar motivations to protect the planet from environmental destruction but who often brutally murders people to accomplish her missions. Morty spends much of the episode with Planetina while Rick takes Summer on an adventure to a trio of planets that are about to be struck by an asteroid and the populations are having a giant orgy. Don Cheadle famously played a crazed caricature of the character in a series of Funny or Die sketches that would fit right into an apocalyptic horror movie. This isn't the first time a parody has pointed out how deranged a real-life Captain Planet would be when faced with the horrors of the modern industrial world. Season 5 Episode 3, 'A Rickconvenient Mort,' sees Morty dating Planetina, a very distinct parody character of Captain Planet (and the Planeteers, hilariously enough).
